Considering move to Sacramento with a young kiddo
We’re a young Asian family living in Greensboro, North Carolina and my husband got a job offer to relocate us to Sacramento.
We’ve been single income since I took time off to care for our child (we don’t have family close by) and it’s been quite doable in NC. She’s two now so I plan to send her to some form of daycare when she’s closer to 3 so I can look for a job. I’m a pediatric physical therapist. So until then, we’ll need to be on a 190k salary, with a 15% annual bonus target. We don’t plan to buy a home yet, but will want to live in the more family friendly areas (safe, quiet, good school district, etc).
We don’t know anyone who lives in the area. Our closest family lives in Santa Clara which I understand to be really different. We’ve never lived in CA. I’m just looking at any advice on what it’s like living here and wondering if this is a good move for us. We’re intrigued by living in another state (we’ve lived in the Midwest then NC), love nature and parks, family friendly events, good libraries and storytimes, good Asian food and boba. I would say we aren’t big spenders and enjoy a good road trip to the beach and mountains. We do like Greensboro as it is fairly family friendly and lots of activities for toddlers so wondering if this is the same in Sacramento as well.
Welcoming all sorts of input and advice to see if your city will be a good fit for us! And if the current income is doable for at least the next year or so. Thank you!!
