Home insurance cancellation
Location: California
I purchased a home (California) two and a half years ago and the home insurance company failed to do an inspection but approved the insurance policy.
A year later I was notified that they were going to cancel my policy due to a failure to get a walk through inspection. I allowed them to come do a walk through and was told everything looked fine and I should be ok (verbal, not in writing).
Six months later I received a notice of non renewal because of an unlisted dog with no report of bite record. I contacted my agent and he said he had no record of a mom renewal. I sent him the notice and he said he'd look into it.
I never heard back from him, then a month later I got another notice. I called the company and they put me through to an appeals agent. I told him I have a corgi who is 12 going on 13 and has no bite record. He said a corgi wouldn't usually be reason for losing home insurance and I should be fine, the appeal is filled and I should be good in a week. My agent emailed me and said he also spoke to them and everything looks squared away and I have nothing to worry about.
I just received notice that my policy was cancelled. The reason was a failure to address that dog issue with an appeal. My agent is saying he doesn't know why that would happen. I called the national company number and they said they have no record of any appeal or previous contact about this issue.
So. Currently I have no home insurance. I want to know if I have grounds for suing this company or my local agent for how this all went down.
The insurance agent is with Goosehead and apparently they are a broker and the actual insurance coverage is through Delos?
