Is Earthquake Insurance worth it for a new home?
Is Earthquake Insurance worth it for a new home?
We all hear the big one is due, but I'm wondering how worth it earthquake insurance really is. One coworker of mine claims that in the event of a major event that causes lots of people to file claims, the earthquake authority will go bankrupt and you won't get anything anyway.
Others have told me that if your home is majorly damaged, you should just sell because the land is where the value is at.
This is for the mid-peninsula btw. Earthquake insurance is incredibly expensive, and doesn't seem to get you much, but it looks like i'd be screwed on a homeowners claim if I needed it. Kind of a lose/lose situation, no?
