Someone gave me this perspective a while back because I, similar to OP, really struggle with the concept that the right now is guaranteed, but retirement or even anything beyond today is not. It completely reframed how I think about the future in terms of my wants now vs. what I may need in the (unpromised) future.
While I may make some "financially unwise decisions" in the now, like blowing $35k on a year of traveling in 2023, I know that I have to balance that with building an emergency fund, putting effort into my career, and maxing out my 401k and Roth IRA now so that I'm prepared both if I die in the near term or if I make it all the way to retirement age.
