Not really, since they were taken over by SCI (Services Corporate International), they're one of the most expensive places for cremation... Call around, it might seem bad, but the Funeral Directors out there take advantage. Call around and look for a local family run place... not a big corporate place (IE: If they have "Dignity" signs outside, they're owned by SCI... Direct Cremation should be around $1000. You don't need to be embalmed for a cremation, unless the body is being shipped or viewed.
