With a pool you have to add additional chlorine to the water to keep it from getting algae. Pool water has significantly more chlorine than tap water. For an above ground pool most people have a floating chlorine dispenser that you put several hockey puck sized chlorine tabs in that slowly dissolve into the water. Pool water will definitely kill grass and most other plants.
