The housing market crashed in 2007 making it possible for some of us "low class" renters to buy homes. Homes now worth 800k were sold for $150k. CA also has programs that allow lower income people, like teachers and police, to buy homes, as well as first time buyer programs. You shouldn't make assumptions about who owns a home.
