It’s such a shame what’s happened to our insurance industry.  Private insurance worked well for many decades.  Health, life and personal property (home / auto).  It was a boring affair that existed to enable the middle class to manage risk as a pool.  They took a bit off the top but the security of knowing you had access to deep capital to rebuild or get your surgery made peoples lives easier and, frankly, possible to build wealth despite major setbacks.  It seems like post GFC each of these has chased profits hard.  Hard.  The model is nearly broken now and seems to exist to profiteer from their customer base rather than enable it.
