Homeowners surplus lines insurance claims

Homeowners surplus lines insurance claims I have had State Farm for 20 years. I have had no claims. I didn't get a notice of non-renewal last year, but with all the fires in LA this year I could see one soon. I am trying to be proactive and see what other companies will charge. No luck with Progressive, Farmers and AAA. All say I am too close to a high fire zone and need to go to Fair plan. An alternative is surplus lines. Other than company failure, are they any harder to get claims paid that the California admitted companies? I hear the claims are not being paid yet for some of the LA homes from admitted companies!
