House fire insurance issues House fire insurance partial denial Hi legal advice! We live in CA : northern California to be exact, we had a house fire last year … and to skip the long version the situation is this.. Our deed has my husbands name on it from his parents putting it on in 2021, his father passed and his mother has the mortgage in her name, we always intended to “buy” the house but we’re not rishi g ( both of our dads passsed, I took over family Buisness, marriage kids life .. it didn’t feel urgent) The letter from the insurance company says that they are only paying the mortgage. They send a check directly written out to the mortgage company for the remainder of that only they are denying any other payments and have paid nothing else claiming that there was a sale. The thing is in 2023. We had a claim with the same insurance company for damage to the roof from a storm. It was severe and they paid to replace the entire roof. Never had an issue never brought any of this up, my mother-in-law got a new policy with the same company. None of this was ever brought up as an issue until the house burned down the original adjuster immediately after that I spoke to when I got out of the hospital had indicated that they would probably only pay for the rebuild and not for our personal property because we would be considered renters. The final adjuster obviously made it completely different claim every public adjuster. I’ve spoken to says I need to talk to a lawyer, but I can’t get any of them to return my calls. It’s been over six months. I am just looking for advice , anything would help. I am so beyond desperate and frustrated. My husband was severely injured spent a long time in the hospital and will be recuperating for a very long time and he is not able to deal with any of this right now. Location: California
