Help Rental Home tenant with fire damage being evicted and sued by landlord Can he do this? Trying to help a friend, he rented a house that was in the Eaton fire zone that got damaged by smoke etc. He is not able to live there because of ash and toxins. He followed the rules to tell the landlord he would not be able to afford to live there with the loss from the fire. He knows landlord got a lot of money from insurance claim. My friend has been trying to salvage what he can from the fire damaged home. But the landlord is being weird about letting him come in and get his stuff. Now the landlord is now suing him for non payment of rent for 3 months and eviction in small claims, on top of trying to keep security deposit. They fall into the unincorporated part of LA County not in City of LA, so most of the protections passed don't apply. A lot of things also protect apartments, not homes. Does anyone know of a lawyer or a group, he has been calling all over and the system is overwhelmed, just keeps getting run around. Is there also a Subreddit for people who were victims of the fires? I didn't find it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
