>FD got the roof fire before it did serious damage
If the roof was on fire enough to need the fire department to put it out, this is serious damage. The roof almost certainly needs to be replaced, the trusses, wiring, piping, ductwork, insulation, etc. under the roof might need to be replaced, the interior and belongings might have been smoke damaged and the damaged roof likely didn't stop all the water sprayed by the FD from entering the house and running down the walls, floors and belongings all over the house.
I'm struggling to think of how a roof could have burned bad enough for the fire department to be called without it causing tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage and really disrupting the lives of the inhabitants for a while.
