I am a homeowner. Police are middle income folks, not low income. I'm not aware of any $150k home sales in 2007, but that's irrelevant, today, the typical middle class person can not afford a home in Santa Cruz. My point is that building wealth through homeownership is not a "middle class" route. The few exceptions you pint out show how rare it is.
