Yep, the insurance crisis in Florida has been a hassle for me, and I live in a modest concrete block and metal roof house 90 minutes from the coast in North Florida. I've owned my home for three years, my homeowners insurance was non-renewed after the first year since the company was leaving the state. With my new insurer, I am now paying 50% more for my premium than I was paying just 2 years ago. We haven't filed any claims and this is typical. Unfortunately we are all absorbing the costs of years of poor practice by insurers and others (looking at you, scammy roofing companies) and too many risky properties on the coasts. It sucks to have to pay to insure someone else's beach house.
