How do people know the cost of Insurance in Southern California

How do people know the cost of Insurance in Southern California I am trying to buy my first home in the LA area, and I know the cost of fire insurance can be very high (or must be purchased through CalFAIR plan) in many areas. I am trying to work on my budget for the house, but I have no idea what the range of possibilities for insurance can be. Some places say it can be as little as a few hundred a month, and I have seen other places people saying its more than $1,000 a month. It is basically impossible to get a "quote" or a sample of prices for the homes we are looking at. I don't know how I can make an offer when the range of potential insurance costs is so broad. Does anyone know how I can figure out at least a reasonable estimate?
