All of what wamazing said, and I'll add a bit: Your state's Secretary of State's office or another department (the SoS office should be able to tell you) will have a division that oversees insurance companies. If you believe that something is being handled in an unethical way or you need information like you're requesting here, they may be able to answer even if you don't yet have an attorney of your own.
