My parents live in a place like this, where oak trees are protected. They have to pay for a tree inspector to come out every time they need it trimmed. Only a small portion of the tree can be trimmed. The city will not allow its removal even though it threatens their roof, foundation, and is a fire hazard (they did submit a permit, which was rejected). It might eventually be possible, but the city is making it very difficult.
