I got some crap insurance and am severely underinsured. I tried with Mercury, but they wouldn't cover me. Now I find out that Mercury insured these other homes in severely high risk areas. I am literally in a major residential area (many many miles away from surrounding mountains) well within the freeway systems. When I looked for houses it was the same thing with insurances no matter where you looked. Umbrella insurance works for damage you might cause in general. I am not sure how that is related to homeowners insurance. My question was legit. I pay a very high sum for insurance right now and am underinsured. I never carried such bad insurance before.
