This Little Detail of Prop 50 Isn’t getting Enough Attention

This Little Detail of Prop 50 Isn’t getting Enough Attention For those who don’t realize CA’s critical role in protecting free and FAIR elections on a NATIONAL level right now… the Texas “emergency” gerrymander effectively renders a black person's vote worth 1/5 of a white person's vote, for the state of Texas. They are quite literally sacrificing black people’s representation, at the behest of the president bc he believes he can’t win midterms without voter suppression. We are at a time in our history where we need to recognize that we are ALL Americans and this type of thing should not happen on our watch. It’s alarming to think of black voters being counted as 1/5th of a white voter, while at one point in our history, black slaves were once considered 3/5 of a person (for the purpose of representation - ie congressional seats and taxes). In black “representation” in one sense, worth little more now than it was during slavery? Or does this make black votes worth at least marginally more, since during slavery the “representation” was actually designed to benefit everyone else (not slaves), whereas at least here they are getting a tiny little fraction of a vote? (albeit while pretending it’s a whole vote). Or do we look at it like, if black slaves had 60% “representation” as people who happened to be living in a place but not a real "vote”, whereas today they have a "real" vote but now it's only worth 20%… in a system that pretends it’s still 100% of a vote…is this almost kinda like, breaking "even"? Bc now it’s starting to look like a scam. What’s worse - being up front about not allowing votes? Or having a sham voting process where ppl think they’re getting one and they’re not? If this all seems like a crude/absurd/grotesque/obscene depiction of what we are facing, well, unfortunately it’s because this is exactly what we are facing. Black votes in Texas will ALSO be worth less than latino votes. Why? Bc a latino vote in Texas will now be worth 1/3 of a white vote, compared to only 1/5 of a white vote that black people get. But yes, latinos also get screwed. Are we REALLY going to stand for this?!?!? Thankfully, CA has an opportunity to DO something about it. So yes we DO NEED to check the Texas gerrymander by voting YES on the *temporary* redistricting plan in CA to effectively neuter the Texas Republicans' sham election rig and level the playing field for the midterms. This is about protecting free and fair elections in the United States of America - in Texas, AND nationally which includes CA. Bc of course what happens in Texas has profound national implications - and they know that. We have a right to reject voter suppression on a national scale. And it's not even really about blue v. red - it's about doing what is best for the good of all and showing that California will not stand for a map of the president’s choice for Texas. THEY don’t get to choose US. WE CHOOSE THEM. And we need to remind them that this is how it’s done in the United States of America. No illegitimate power grabs and bs. They don’t get to flee their voters and flee accountability in the midterms. They don’t get to change the rules halfway through the game when they suspect they’re losing. It’s one person, one vote, period. And the right to vote with fair representation means every person needs to get ONE WHOLE VOTE, not a partial fraction of a vote. And we need to protect that and demand that across the nation. As for those leftists who complain about the Dem politician not being tough enough? Well, we need to be tough ourselves and this is an opportunity for us to do that. We need to show up when it matters and take calculated risks when it matters. Now’s the time. We don’t get on a high horse, when what we really need is a winning strategy. This is not the time to be rigid, especially not for a *temporary* measure that’s part of a long game. We have an historic opportunity right now to put leaders in check. Any leaders who overreach their power - whether from right, left, whatever - deserves that accountability. If we are the ones really running this place, then it’s time to act like it and fight back. California can show what we stand for and that we will not allow Americans to be bullied. Support, protect, and stand with the people of Texas = Protect California and the U.S. too. YES on 50!! 🙌 Please copy and share this post to spread the word!! Edited for clarification.
