Car Insurance: Non-renewal sent to old address

Car Insurance: Non-renewal sent to old address Hello All, I've recently discovered that my insurance policy hasn't been renewed since January. I received an email notifying me that my policy would be auto renewed and to take action if I did not want to continue; however, the insurance company sent non renewal notices to my old address. I have a lease for my car which requires full coverage and did some digging on the Internet. Apparently, the lender usually is notified of a non renewal and issues the leasee a policy of their choice. This never happened and I've been, unknowingly, driving without insurance for a few months now. So after all of that, my question is what should I tell insurance companies? I realize that this would look unfavorable for me if taken to court. Please help! Additional info: have excellent credit, never missed a payment.
