I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I would add some kind of disclaimer to the guide along the lines of "please take advice from current residents with a grain of salt and do your own research." Every time this question comes up, people recommend moving to the neighborhood they themselves live in, and it's often totally ignoring the context of the OP's situation. It's like:
OP - "I'm a 27-year old single guy looking to live in a hip, walkable area with lots of bars/restaurants and activities for people in my age range. I'm newly single and will be looking to date."
a redditor's reply - "Well, I live in Woodland Hills and it's great! It's really quiet here and there isn't much traffic. There's a cool mall here."
I just feel like people moving from out of state have no idea how spread out LA is and how hard it is to get around the city. If you're new and looking to explore the city, the worst thing you can do is get boxed in in one neighborhood on the outskirts of where all the action is. So I think it's really a disservice when people say oh you should move to Marina del Rey or Pasadena or whatever, places where you'll spend half your life in your car if you're someone who wants to hang out in Hollywood, Downtown, etc.
