It’s true by definition … if the insurer has adequate info about likelihood of loss and behaves rationally. But sometimes insurers underprice or the insured has more precise knowledge about likelihood of loss. On the other hand, I know my dog is unusually klutzy, has a sensitive tummy, and serious behavioral issues. I’ve turned a profit on his pet insurance every year I’ve had him.
