Van got flooded and made an insurance claim. Before pick up, I tried to salvage the motor, and got claim denied
Location: Missouri.
OK, so, probably a month and a half ago or so we had flash floods in our area. I was driving home from work and went through around 3 feet of standing water I didn't see, as it was under an overpass.
I got out of the standing water, and pulled over at the closest safe spot about a block down the road and shut the motor off. I immediately popped the hood and checked the oil and there was water in it. I got myself towed home.
It had the wife making an insurance claim, but not to pick it up for a week.
During that week, I figured I'm gonna try to save the motor. So I changed the oil, took apart the intake emptied the water and backed out the spark plugs to see if there is any water in the block, which there was very little. My friend and I (friend is a mechanic) put everything back together.
I fire her up and she ran like crap, blowing white smoke everywhere, and barely idling. So I said the heck with it we'll just continue on with the claim then.
Fast forward about three weeks later, the mechanic gets into the motor and says it's shot. Then the adjuster gets to the mechanic shop and says there's no evidence of water damage and denies the claim.
Do I have any options?
We have progressive insurance. If there's any other relevant info needed, let me know.
Also, I am at work, and work nights if I don't respond right away. Thank you.
