Rental income does not count as earned income for IRA purposes, no. The IRA space is due to: 1. A final paycheck from my previous W-2 that came in January 2026 ($10,000), and 2. Some part-time consulting work I did for a colleague ($3,000). The W-2 paycheck was a one-off. I am continuing the consulting work into 2026, it's typically two to three days a month. Presuming the engagement continues through the year, it will probably come to ~$15,000 for the year.
