A big problem you have is that your policy will have a clause in it that requires you to exhibit the vehicle to the insurer for inspection before repairs are performed or evidence of loss is removed.  There are exceptions for repairs necessary to prevent further damage, but it doesn't sound like you'd qualify for it.  You inhibited their ability to investigate the merits of your claim so you could be SOL
