It’s illegal to do a lot of things.
There is nobody policing the majority of landlords. Tenants don’t know their rights. With protections in place, the landlord will not get it through a court. But most Tenants don’t know their rights. And the Landlord knows your precise financial resources to fight them civilly.
Like all things, this will further drive lower-income people and vulnerable populations off the map. I have lost my home to a natural disaster. I have seen the devastating ripple of the aftermath, and as soon as I’ve recovered from this, I will be making every effort to get out of here.
“It’s illegal” does not stop predators in this city. And there’s also simple opportunists who will not renew a lease to accommodate the girl offering 5K for any space on Facebook.
Check Zillow rental stats in LA as well. They all went up.
