Going without homeowners in WUI

Going without homeowners in WUI After almost 50 years of using state farm for auto, and 27 years for homeowners and personal umbrella, State Farm dropped us. I've been working with Barber insurance, but with no luck. They have been great, just no one really writes new homeowners in the WUI. Got a quote from Bamboo plus a California fair plan for $11k year, but the reviews for Bamboo pretty sketchy. They appear to love to take your money but hard to get them to pay claims. Anyone else in this situation? We never filed a claim in all those years. Should we just go with Bamboo, try another broker, go "self insured"? We have a good home inspection report and our house passed for defensible space after considerable work by arborists. Getting a fire hose connection on our 5000 gallon water tank ( in addition to the nearby fire hydrant).
