Fire insurance claim delays, unpaid ALE reimbursements, notice to vacate - looking for advice
Fire insurance claim delays, unpaid ALE reimbursements, notice to vacate - looking for advice
Hello, I’m looking for general guidance on next steps.
**Location: Orange County, California.**
**Timeline:**
• Fire loss 6/2025 (kitchen/dining)
• Adjuster estimated \~3 months
• Temporary housing since 9/2025
• 6+ months later, minimal construction
**Issues:**
• Contents cleaning delayed to 4 months
• No full itemized contents inventory provided from restoration
• Structural wall removal delayed for permits and was not informed until end of 10/2025
• Electrical damage in older home; wiring not up to code
• Electrical/construction proposals submitted 12/2025, approval stalled
• Adjuster instructed one week of clothing initially
• Food,Hotel,clothing receipts submitted 8/2025
• Food reimbursed 10/2025, but lodging reimbursement remains unpaid
• Significant interest incurred due to delay
• Told ALE exhausted end of 1/2026
• Relocation company issued vacate notice despite home being uninhabitable
At this point, I’m trying to understand:
1. Whether this could constitute improper claims handling
2. How ALE exhaustion is typically applied when delays aren’t caused by the insured
3. Whether escalation through a DOI complaint or attorney consultation makes sense
Any general guidance is appreciated. Thank you
