Teachers in CA are not "middle class." Not even close. Police cannot afford to live here, which is why we have none. The housing market bottomed out because of mass foreclosures in the early 2000s. Prices stayed low until 2014. There are programs to help people buy homes. The only reason I will be able to buy a home is because I was a teacher who got help from the state to buy a home 10 years ago while rates were low. I was poor growing up and nothing has been handed to me. Theres no need to chastise people for needing home insurance. Don't be angry at the home owners. Blame the politicians for what they let happen to this state, including fires, the environment and out of control insurance companies.
